Gas and Home Safety Engineer - Keeping Homes Safe and Warm
£42,636 per annum | Bath-based, field across the South West
Permanent | Full Time | 40 hours per week
Every Home. Every Customer. Every Visit.
Behind every job on your list is a customer waiting for you. Sometimes it’s their annual service. Sometimes the heating’s gone out and they’ve got young kids at home. Either way, they need someone who knows what they’re doing and treats their home with respect.
We’re recruiting a Gas Safe registered engineer to join our Property Maintenance and Repairs team. You’ll carry out gas servicing, breakdowns and repairs across our customers’ homes, alongside wider home safety checks that keep our residents safe and warm.
This is a field-based role with the kit, the patch and the support to do your work properly. No racing the clock. No corners cut on safety. Just good work, done well, with customers who appreciate it.
What you’ll be doing
Carrying out gas servicing, maintenance, breakdowns and repairs to a high technical standard, aiming for a first-time fix wherever you can
Completing wider home safety checks alongside the boiler — smoke alarms, fire doors, thermostatic mixing valves, unvented cylinders, asbestos and Radon — and acting on what you find
Diagnosing issues accurately and keeping current with regulations, Gas Safe requirements and technical bulletins
Explaining what’s needed to customers in plain language, so they know what’s happening and why
Making properties safe where a full repair isn’t possible on the first visit, and booking the follow-up
Carrying out a dynamic risk assessment on every job and working safely throughout
Keeping accurate records on our systems, managing your van stock, and looking after your equipment and vehicle
Sharing what you know with the wider team, joining toolbox talks, and helping the service improve
What you’ll get in return
Beyond a salary of £42,636 and the chance to do work that genuinely matters, you’ll get:
A company van for use during working hours, taken home each day
26 days annual leave per year (plus bank holidays) rising to 29 days after 3 years
Your birthday off as an extra holiday
Up to 10% matched pension contribution
Free parking at many of our locations
Flexible benefits which might include a Health Cash Plan
Access to an Employee Assistance Programme for your own wellbeing
More about you
You’re a qualified gas engineer who is technically strong and takes pride in doing the job properly. You’re confident diagnosing problems, working across different systems, and keeping your knowledge current as regulations evolve. You’re just as comfortable in someone’s home - explaining what you’re doing, listening to what they need, and leaving things as you found them.
Essential:
ACS qualifications including CCN1, CENWAT, HTR1 and CKR1, with current Gas Safe registration
A recognised trade qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 2 or equivalent practical experience)
Demonstrable experience of gas servicing and diagnostic work in domestic properties
Strong technical ability — sound diagnostic skills and the initiative to make good decisions on the job
A full UK driving licence
Confident with mobile devices for managing jobs and records
A basic DBS check will be required for this role
We value transferable experience. If you’ve worked in a private gas company, contractor, or housebuilder and you’re looking for a role where the work is steady, the customers are people not numbers, and your safety standards are taken seriously - we’d love to hear from you.
