Your Health and Safety Expertise. Our People. Safer Communities.
At Curo, we take pride in keeping our colleagues and customers safe — whether that's our trade teams working in people's homes, our office-based colleagues, or the residents living across our 13,500 properties. Health and safety touches everything we do, and we need someone who cares about getting it right.
Many health and safety adviser roles focus on one type of environment. This role covers everything from trade operations and construction, through to corporate and office -based settings, giving you breadth and variety that's hard to find in one position. If you're after genuine variety across your working week, this role has it.
Working as part of a two-person health and safety team, you'll provide expert guidance across the whole organisation — from risk assessments and compliance through to training delivery and incident investigations. If you don't yet hold a NEBOSH General Certificate, we'll support you to achieve it.
What you'll be doing
Creating, reviewing and maintaining risk assessments, COSHH assessments, policies and safe systems of work across our operations
Advising managers and colleagues on health and safety matters, ensuring we meet our statutory obligations and promote safe working practices
Delivering engaging health and safety inductions, toolbox talks and safety briefings — particularly for our trade teams, where new starters join every two weeks
Investigating accidents, near-misses and incidents, identifying root causes and sharing learning to prevent recurrence
Conducting site audits and inspections, checking that our teams are working safely and addressing any issues
Reporting compliance data and presenting findings to our safety committee
Building strong relationships across the business, making safety practical and accessible at every level
What you'll get in return
Beyond a competitive salary of £40,835 and the chance to make a real difference every day, you'll get:
26 days annual leave per year (plus bank holidays) rising to 29 days after 3 years
Your birthday off as an extra holiday
Up to 10% matched pension contribution
Hybrid working (3 days office, 2 days home)
Flexible benefits which might include a Health Cash Plan
Access to an Employee Assistance Programme for your own wellbeing
More about you
You're a practical, approachable health and safety professional who can explain complex safety information clearly — whether you're briefing a team of electricians on working at height or advising a director on organisational risk.
You're comfortable with the administrative side of health and safety too. This role involves a significant amount of writing — risk assessments, policies, reports, COSHH documentation — and you'll need to be organised and methodical in managing a busy compliance workload across multiple priorities.
Essential:
Practical experience of providing health and safety advice and support in an operational environment, particularly with trade or manual workforce activities
Experience of conducting risk assessments, audits, inspections and incident investigations
Experience of developing and delivering health and safety training, toolbox talks or safety briefings
Strong communication skills — able to engage colleagues at all levels, from trade operatives to senior leaders
Well organised and self-motivated, with the ability to manage your own workload across multiple priorities
Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent qualification)
Experience in social housing, construction, facilities management or a similar property services environment
Experience of CDM regulations and their application to maintenance and refurbishment works

About Curo
We're one of the largest landlords in the South West, with a diverse portfolio of affordable and market rented homes.
We own and manage more than 14,000 homes; properties that our 28,000 residents call home. We’re building hundreds of new homes every year for rent and sale.
We provide award-winning support services to a wide range of residents, including homeless young people and families, older and disabled people, and those affected by mental health issues or memory loss.
As a housing association we have no paid shareholders. We create profit for purpose, reinvesting the surpluses from our commercial house-building business into our core social purpose.
