Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Homes Built with Purpose
£47,000 per annum + benefits | Mulberry Park, Bath | Hybrid (3 days office-based)
Permanent | 37 hours per week
Build homes that matter. Without trading your weekends for it.
If the late nights and constant pressure are starting to wear thin, this role might be for you.
You want to own your work. See the schemes you cost get built. Finish at a reasonable hour without it being a problem. And you want the work to mean something.
This is that role.
As our Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you’ll take full commercial responsibility for at least one live development across the South West, while also supporting senior colleagues on theirs. You’ll be part of a small and experienced team that’s close to the product. The pace is demanding but not relentless. And with around 1,000 new homes in our pipeline over the next five years, there’s enough here to build a career on.
We’re Curo Enterprise — the award-winning commercial housebuilding division of Curo, a profit-for-purpose housing association. All our profits go back into Homes for Good: social housing and affordable homes that help communities and people.
What you’ll be doing
Taking full commercial responsibility for at least one live development scheme, from start on site, to final account
Processing subcontractor orders, payments, variations and dayworks, and preparing works valuations
Assessing and agreeing variations, ensuring value for money
Monitoring costs, explaining movements within the site CVR, and reporting on savings and variances against budget
Helping prepare tender and contract documents, running subcontract tender analysis, and supporting negotiations
Attending and contributing to live scheme project meetings
Contributing to cashflow forecasts, CVR reports and value engineering
Working closely with Technical, Buying and Construction colleagues to manage Cost to Complete effectively
Preparing subcontractor final accounts and contributing to lessons learnt reviews
What you’ll get in return
Beyond a salary of £47,000 and the chance to build homes that matter, you’ll get:
A bonus scheme
Support for your professional development
26 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) rising to 29 days after 3 years
Your birthday off as an extra holiday
Up to 10% matched pension contribution, with 6x salary life assurance
Hybrid working (3 days office, 2 days home or site)
An employee benefits platform including a Health Cash Plan, cycle to work, gym membership, holiday trading and retail discounts
More about you
You’ve been building your Quantity Surveyor skills for a few years. On paper things look fine — live schemes, steady salary, decent progression. But the day-to-day is grinding. The patch is too big, the hours too long, and you’re doing the work without any real say in how. You’re good at the job. You just want to do it somewhere that lets you.
Essential:
Commercial experience in construction or housebuilding
Working towards, or holding, a relevant qualification such as a Quantity Surveying degree, HNC/HND or equivalent
Confident with numbers and analytical work, including Excel and commercial software used day-to-day in a QS role
Clear communicator, comfortable working on your own when the job calls for it and alongside others when it doesn’t
Full UK driving licence and access to your own transport for site visits
Desirable:
Working knowledge of masonry and timber frame housebuilding
Understanding of JCT contracts
Experience using COINS
Experience taking off quantities from drawings
A CSCS card (this can be obtained after starting)

About Curo
We're one of the largest landlords in the South West, with a diverse portfolio of affordable and market rented homes.
We own and manage more than 14,000 homes; properties that our 28,000 residents call home. We’re building hundreds of new homes every year for rent and sale.
We provide award-winning support services to a wide range of residents, including homeless young people and families, older and disabled people, and those affected by mental health issues or memory loss.
As a housing association we have no paid shareholders. We create profit for purpose, reinvesting the surpluses from our commercial house-building business into our core social purpose.
